Current
- TN EPSC Level I Trainings (State required training for construction).
The TNWRRC provides Level I and II trainings per state requirements for managing stormwater on construction or land disturbing sites. The Level I workshop is intended for contractors, developers, inspection and enforcement personnel, planners, designers, and engineers. It is a one day workshop incorporating topics such as basic hydrologic and erosion processes, the most updated construction general permit; the function, installation, limitations, inspections, and maintenance of construction site best management practices, and roles of personnel in the permitting process.
Future
- ENVE 544: GIS Applications for Hydrology (University of Tennessee)
Dr. Simpson plans to reintroduce this course to the UT curriculum in the next few semesters. It will focus on applications of Geographic Information Systems in Water Resources Engineering. The course will provide skills/knowledge of 1) digital mapping of water resources information, 2) spatial coordinate systems, 3) hydrologic terrain analysis using digital elevation models, 4) river and watershed networks, 5) soil and land use mapping, 6) flood hydrology modeling and floodplain mapping, 7) integration of time series and geospatial data, and 8) hydrologic and hydraulic modeling applications.
Past
- ENVE 531 / CE 495: Hydrology (University of Tennessee)
This course is currently taught by Dr. Jon Hathaway, one of Dr. Simpson’s mentors. This course is a detail oriented introduction to hydrologic and hydraulic principles, covering modules on precipitation, infiltration, evapotranspiration, groundwater flow, surface runoff, hydrograph routing, and design of various stormwater control measures. *Dr. Simpson was the instructor of record for this course only in the Spring of 2024.
